Dubai Fitness Challenge FAQs
What is the Dubai Fitness Challenge?
The inaugural Dubai Fitness Challenge is a citywide initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council for Dubai Government, to make Dubai the most active city in the world. Our goal is to get every Dubai resident to commit to 30 minutes of continuous daily activity for 30 days from 20 October to 18 November 2017.
The flagship Dubai Fitness Challenge is the Emirate’s only multi-activity, citywide fitness movement to date. Encompassing all forms of activity – from walking, team sports, intense fitness regimes, paddle-boarding and aerobics to football, yoga, cycling and everything in between – this will be an exciting, action-packed and, most importantly, personally rewarding month of self-discovery, social interaction and enjoyment for everyone of all ages, abilities and fitness levels.
Participants can still register and track their progress through the dedicated Dubai Fitness Challenge mobile app, now available in Apple App Store and Google Play, which will allow participants to record and share their activity, discover events and unlock exciting rewards from our partners.
What is the aim of the Dubai Fitness Challenge?
Our vision is to create a long term positive lifestyle change for the people of Dubai by getting everyone to commit to 30 minutes of continuous daily activity for 30 days. Our goal is to be the most active city in the world. We hope to turn this initiative into an annual event that will showcase Dubai as a great place to live and visit.
In the ‘Year of Giving’, we want you to give something back to yourself, your family and your community. Our commitment to this inaugural citywide initiative includes a packed event calendar of weekend carnivals, engagement by sports and fitness personalities, cool fitness pop-ups, wheelchair races and exciting facilities across the city. To make your journey to fitness easier, we’ve created a dedicated Dubai Fitness Challenge app which will track everyone’s progress.

Why a 30-day challenge?
Studies have shown that the consistency of an action over a period of 30 days has more chance of creating a permanent change in a person’s life. It’s approximately the length of time required to observe small changes in one’s health and wellbeing, but also enough time to encourage exploration of new things.
The happiness, health and wellbeing of citizens, residents and visitors is at the forefront of the UAE Government’s list of priorities, especially in Dubai. Moreover, the Dubai Health Authority is invested in developing and promoting initiatives that revolve around the wellbeing of everyone. With the Dubai Health Strategy 2016-2021 in place, we believe that Dubai provides the perfect platform for this inaugural initiative.
The city’s vision is enabled by the creation of outdoor activity infrastructure including hundreds of kilometres of purpose built cycling tracks and cushioned running tracks. Combined with new outdoor locations like the Dubai Canal, there is no better location to launch a fitness initiative.
Where are the Dubai Fitness Challenge events taking place?
The Dubai Fitness Challenge is hosting a month of citywide events and activations, including more than 1,500 free workout classes at 88 partner fitness and sports facilities, 75 pop-up fitness locations for easy and convenient workouts, 16 partner sporting events and a whole range of sports and fitness activities. There is something for everyone! Don’t miss our fun Weekend Carnivals that will help you stay motivated and reach your 30×30 goals with the whole city.

What are MOVEs?
A MOVE is a combination of the minutes of activity you have done, and its intensity. When you add your minutes of activity the app will automatically convert your minutes into MOVEs.
These are calculated using the minutes and Intensity of your activity, giving you more MOVEs if you make more effort and allowing you quickly and easily understand the value of the activity you have done. For example 30 minutes of running at high speed is worth more MOVEs than walking for the same period.
How do I track my activity?
There are two ways you can add your results, either by using the GPS activity tracker or by inputting exercise manually. Go to My Movement and select from the options. If you are inputting results manually you can select from a range of activities available as well as any classes you might attend.
What classes are available?
Download the app to see the full schedule of more than 1,500 classes all over Dubai – all for free. You can select the date you want to attend and see what classes are available that day. All classes are available on a first come, first served basis, with limited spaces for some. Please contact the facility for more information.

- Encourage your employees to keep going and commit to 30 minutes of activity each days.
- Visit dubaifitnesschallenge.com for inspirational ideas and set up your own team challenges.
- Consult health and fitness experts to set up programmes for your staff – see the toolkit for suggestions.

What are the benefits of having staff/employees engage in this initiative?
Studies have found that workers who exercised 30 to 60 minutes each day reported an average performance boost of 15 per cent*. Time management skills, mental performance and the ability to meet deadlines were all said to have improved on the days they exercised. Regular physical activity not only leads to less sick days, decreased insurance premiums and improved work performance – but also a happier workforce.
