You did it! Dubai came together in an amazing month-long journey to help transform the emirate into the most active city in the world during the inaugural Dubai Fitness Challenge, an initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council for Dubai Government.
Families, individuals, schools and corporates all over Dubai embraced the challenge and committed to 30 minutes of activity every day for 30 days from 20 October to 18 November 2017 with one collective mission: to get active and make strides towards a positive lifestyle change.
Thousands of residents came out every Friday and Saturday for fun-filled Weekend Carnivals taking place all over the city from Safa Park and Kite Beach to Skydive Dubai, Burj Park and Dubai Festival City. Dubai Fitness challengers made the commitment to get fit with the whole community at Carnivals that featured mobile fitness units, celebrity workouts, exhilarating stunts, friendly competitions, a Superhero Walkathon and so much more. From local celebrities like Kris Fade to international superstars like Anthony Joshua, each weekend aimed to inspire participants to have fun while getting their #Dubai30x30.
Global fitness influencers and celebrities took part in the Dubai Fitness Challenge by hosting classes, giving inspiring talks and sharing their best fitness tips. Celebrity appearances included World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Anthony Joshua, former Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand, and award-winning fitness instructors, entrepreneurs and online personalities like Cassey Ho and Kayla Itsines.
Dubai’s community from Government organisations and corporates to schools and families embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. Official bodies such as Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Police, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Airports and many more shared their contribution towards the challenge with the community and inspired others along the way.
Using the hashtag #Dubai30x30, residents took to social media and shared how they were getting their daily 30 minutes of activity. From bike rides through the desert to slope trekking in Ski Dubai, the people of Dubai displayed a wide variety of fun and interesting ways to get active. Making sure their progress was tracked, participants used the Dubai Fitness Challenge app daily to ensure their minutes counted towards making Dubai the most active city in the world.
Throughout the challenge, a number of partner events took place and inspired participants to get their daily 30 minutes, adding to the sense of community spirit. The city came together in a line-up of exciting events like the X3 Junior Triathlon, YogaFest’s Full Moon Yoga, XDubai Spartan Race presented by Dubai Holding, The Color Run Dubai presented by Daman’s Activelife and many more!
