Workouts, competitions, celebrity demos and awesome beach vibes
23,000 Dubai Fitness challengers gathered at Kite Beach on 27 and 28 October 2017. The Kite Beach Weekend Carnival, brought to you by DEWA, saw two days of seaside exercise classes, competitions and live entertainment for all ages.
One of the Carnival’s biggest stars was the viral fitness instructor, Cassey Ho. With nearly 4 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, Blogilates, Cassey’s POP Pilates class started out online, and is now taught at over 3,000 gyms all over the world. She flew from LA to help Dubai become the world’s most active city by leading her signature pilates class on the sand.
On both Friday and Saturday, the Carnival events kicked off at 1pm with a packed line-up of over forty classes and sports for participants to try out. People took part in everything from kite surfing to paragliding in the water and boot camps and volleyball on land. The action started even earlier on Saturday morning, with hundreds of Dubai Fitness Challenge participants hitting the waves for the Dubai City Swim.
One of the Carnival’s highlights was the tug-of-war contests, which attracted huge crowds all weekend. Corporate teams battled it out in this test of strength over both days.
On the event’s main stage, there was plenty going on in between classes to keep everyone motivated. The live capoeira demonstration from the Capoeira Center, which left the crowds amazed with the mix of dance, martial arts and acrobatics. Also performing on stage were the impressive DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics Club display and the ever-popular Football Freestylers.
